Chinese in US Boarding Schools

Its been a while since our last post.  Boarding and Prep Schools in the US are seeing an overwhelming number of students coming from China.  What a great thing.  The world is becoming more international and there is no better place to start then at school.

Both parties benefit from this.  (not political parties).  The typical western student benefits from sitting next to a student from quite a different culture.  And the Chinese student benefits because they are being totally immersed in English and the western style of life.  Language Immersion Schools are the best way for students to learn a language.  But learning a language is not the only skill one learns in this total immersion.  They also learn thought processes, camaraderie,  innovation, new sports, values and life lessons.  In return they, without knowing, teach these same lessons back to the other students as well.

This is the real upside to boarding schools and even more so American Boarding Schools.  In a traditional school, adolescents are taught the curriculum and then go home.  But in a boarding or prep school environment, the learning process continues throughout the day and night.  International students, especially from China, see this. An interesting article was recently published in the Washington Post about this.  As much as it is to denounce in China, the wealthy and well educated in China are still finding ways to justify sending their children to boarding and prep schools and even universities in the states.

There are no boarders when it comes to education....
